About the call

Public funds alone are not enough to meet the EU's energy and climate targets, so the call works towards ensuring that private capital flows into energy efficiency and renewable energy projects at scale, rather than as an exception. The call falls under the priority area 'Attracting private finance for sustainable energy'.

Objectives

To expand access to private financing for sustainable energy projects and to strengthen the financial sector's capacity to assess such projects.

What is funded

The call funds non-technological instruments - financial engineering, rather than the investments themselves.

• Developing and replicating financial products and schemes for energy efficiency and renewables.
• De-risking mechanisms for private investors.
• Standardisation of documentation and project assessment procedures.
• Working with banks, investors and financial intermediaries - building their capacity to assess energy projects.
• Aggregating small projects into portfolios that are attractive to institutional investors.
• Engagement with the European Energy Efficiency Financing Coalition and its national hubs.

Conditions

• Consortium: at least 3 applicants from 3 different countries.
• Indicative grant amount: up to €2 million (check the exact amount on the topic page).
