SUPPORT DHC
Supporting a fast implementation of low-grade renewable energy and waste heat for district heating and cooling
About the project
SUPPORT DHC aims to speed up the uptake of low-grade renewable energy and waste heat in district heating and cooling across Europe. It helps operators prepare transformation plans towards efficient systems as defined in the revised Energy Efficiency Directive, together with concrete investment plans for packages of such measures. In six countries, Austria, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine, the project works with local operators to trigger real investments. Support is provided in three steps: intensive support for 11 frontrunner cases, at least 27 follower cases selected during the project, and outreach to more than 100 operators, including beyond the target countries, combined with capacity building and work on removing market and regulatory barriers at local, national and EU level.

Ukrainian participation
Ukraine is one of the six target countries, represented by the Municipal Institution “City Institute” from Lviv. According to the partner, the City of Lviv, through its utility Lvivteploenergo, is exploring the use of geothermal energy and waste heat, and a capacity-building programme covers eight Ukrainian district heating companies from seven cities.
